We’ve looked carefully at the challenges and opportunities being faced by food producers, consumers, science and society, in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world. We asked our staff about the future organisation they would be proud to be part of, and what that organisation would deliver for people and planet. We assessed our strengths and weaknesses, and considered where we can find others who share our ambition and can bring different skills. We then asked ourselves three simple questions:
What can we do?
What can only we do?
What does Aotearoa New Zealand need us to do?
Our strategy sets ambitious goals for our organisation and our impact in the world. We will seek out and address major challenges and have impact in specific areas deeply relevant to Aotearoa New Zealand – economically, environmentally and socially. We will focus our science in key areas of research where we have the knowledge and the know-how to both conduct the research and see it through to uptake and commercialisation in industry and society. And we will achieve these things through dedication to excellence and respect for people and partnerships.
We look at the whole food system, from field or sea to plate, to create healthy, nutritious foods from the world’s best food systems.
