Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

Our goal at Plant & Food Research is enabling the production of healthy and enjoyable food in ways that don’t harm people or planet. We not only want to help our partners and customers improve the sustainability of their businesses, but also to lead by example.

We’ve adopted the Future-Fit Business Benchmark to identify and account for any shortfalls in our sustainability performance (the 23 ‘Break-even Goals’), and as a way to describe the value we create directly through our own activities and indirectly through helping others become more sustainable (the 24 ‘Positive Pursuits’). We’re committed to not just talking about sustainability but making real efforts towards becoming a more sustainable organisation, and the Benchmark is used around the world as a way of assessing how organisations contribute to a flourishing society.

To make sure we’re doing everything we can to reduce our impact on climate change, we’re taking action on our carbon emissions. We’ve achieved Toitū carbonreduce certification and are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Science-Based Targets initiative.

We’re committed to making sure we are working in the most sustainable ways in our own organisation. This means learning from others and we are active members of the Sustainable Business Council.

Being sustainable not only makes good business sense, but it’s important to our people that we’re reducing our collective impact on the environment and supporting local communities, while also making sure our financial resources and infrastructure allow us to continue doing our work for others. By sharing our knowledge and insights with others, whether that’s through our research or our organisational experience, we can support them to make more sustainable choices, helping to create a smart green future for everyone.
