New Cultivar Innovation

Research technologist
I studied at the University of Auckland and have been working in plant molecular biology at Plant & Food Research since 2015. Our team's research is aimed at improving plant crops, focused on plant colours and compounds made by plants that are beneficial for human health. We investigate common crops such as apple and blueberry, but also, to keep things interesting, we have projects involving plants most people have never heard of that are producing compounds that may have novel properties and human health benefits. I enjoy working in molecular biology because of all the advances it has delivered and, since we seem to have barely scratched the surface, the advances it promises to deliver in the future if we can realise its potential.
