My research is looking at immune responses in people and how these can be affected by food products, such as foods that may boost vaccine responses. In general I am focused on improving health outcomes of people who are exposed to a multitude of stressors, such as infections. However, it is not only humans and another one of my research areas looks at the immune system of fish. This research is key in supporting the development of open ocean aquaculture in Aotearoa New Zealand so that we can understand fish health status and eventually be able to breed a sustainable supply of healthy fish.
